Upgraded!
And lookit that! The site's been upgraded to 3.0 now. Yay~Some of the skins may be broken, though. So your help would be appreciated in telling me if they are. If you're having trouble with any of them, use the 'Zen' layouts. They came with the installation.
Working on the transfer of R-rated stuff to the new TONFA-Restricted, now. :)b
Edit if you're going to say "this doesn't work", please tell me which skin you're using. The only reason I've still got the default skin set to Shino is because I haven't had the time to switch the topsite and affliate banners to one of the 3.0 skins. (Zenlike and CSSZen)
Edit #2: The newest skin is titled "Sasuke". It's a 3.0 skin, so it will work. It's also the new default skin :)
Edit #3: Most of the skins have now been taken offline, so that they can be upgraded to 3.0 compatible. Hopefully this won't take too long!

What's Your Opinion?
I really don't feel like trying to figure out what needs to be done to reinitialize the poll program. And the NFA is down like the forums, so I can't borrow their polls either. Looks like we're going to have to do this through comments. Sorry folks.I know there are a lot of 18+/XXX fanfics that you all love to read and write. I'm not getting rid of them. I'm proposing that we move them into a secondary site, if you will. Now, this is not saying that they're being removed from TONFA, or even that you'll have to sign up individually for each site (I'm pretty sure that I can set it up so that the user database is the same for both sites).
This is me saying that you'll be able to access those fics from a subdomain of narutofic.org. Something like http://adult.narutofic.org/
The question is: would you guys accept that?
And if you're wondering. Yes, my number one reason for considering creating an adult subsite of TONFA is because all of the methods I've been looking into using to support TONFA, outside of Cafepress, will not affliate with TONFA due to the adult material on the site.

Fan Ninja Bingo Book
First off, a couple quick notes: The How-To-Page is almost all the way back up. Yay! Note number two: the forums seem to be down. My host has a couple of servers go down, and I can only assume that for some strange reason the forums are hosted on a server seperate from the rest of TONFA. If it persists, the forums will be moving to a different subdomain.Now... for the Big News of The Night:
You may have noticed a new category has gone up tonight; the Fan Ninja Bingo Book.
I know that some of you like to post the profiles for your characters into the stories that feature them, especially as a chapter all on their own. Please don't do that anymore. The Fan Ninja Bingo Book (FNBB) was created so that you could post your fan-ninja profiles there without breaking up the flow of your story. It's also a handy reference for those who share characters between authors, and would prefer not to have to dig through your stories to get to them.
Of course, not all the characters in the FNBB are going to be free for everyone to use. In fact, unless specifically stated that the characters are free for others to use, do not use the characters that appear in the Bingo Book in your own stories.
The FNBB is also for use by those who have been putting their fan-ninja profiles in their author bios. Please don't do that anymore, either. It's actually majorly annoying to have to scroll through six pages of information on your fictional characters just to get down to the stories they're in. The FNBB is there for you to use to keep your character profiles distinct and seperate, from both each other, and from the stories you're writing.
And yes. You are allowed to post pictures of your fan-ninjas into the FNBB. However, if you are using images without the artist's permission, it is on your head and your head alone should the artist be displeased with you. Me? I'll just delete the images at the request of the artist. You will be the one to have to deal with the fall out of being an Art Thief.
That said, have fun! Post your profiles, compare characters, poke at friends, and create genin teams from your OCs. That's what the FNBB is for, after all. :)
Edit: The TONFA How-To Manual (located on the "Help" page) is now fully operational. Go, poke at it. And if there's something missing, please, let me know. ;)b

BahFanfiction
Would you look at that! Another affiliate! Always a lovely thing. This time around we've hooked up with BahFanfiction (http://bahfanfiction.com/fics/index.php). It's a small general archive, with just short of 200 stories. You can find stories anime, comics, books, movies, original fics... though at the moment, their anime/manga section seems a little bit lacking. So why don't you go on over there, check it out, and if you like it, post a fic or two. I won't hold it against you. :)
ADD-ON FROM DOLLY: Just a reminder not to add a fanfic more than once, please. >_

Two Points, People.
First, the company who owns the servers was doing some work, which is why the site was down a few times this week. It should be fixed.Secondly, please beta your fics. Please. I'd like to think I've stressed this enough-but apparently not. Fics with typos and bad grammar will be edited or moved into the Bad Fic section without warning.
What makes up a Bad Fic? Chatspeak or lack of sentance structure does. In fact, anything below a eight grade writing level. The only exceptions are lists, and fiction fragments. Stylistic deviations are judged on a case-by-case basis.
It's nothing personal-things need to be read, and thus, in proper English. Not a lingo nobody likes. Thanks.
ETA:Dolly brought up a very good point. Paragraphs, unless it's a script-story, are expected of you. A paragraph is four to seven sentences.
And yes, you are more than welcome to write in another language. I'm fluent in French-so that is more than okay. As for others languages, you will still be expected to have proper structure and all that. It'll be checked by someone.

So. Obviously. I fail.
Horribly, horribly, HORRIBLY fail.Any stories, images, reviews or registrations in the past... oh, I'd say fourteen hours, have vanished. I'd say it was fushigi mystery, only it's not. It's because I fail horribly.
Upgrade to 3.0.2 FAILED. Horribly. We'll wait until at least 3.0.5. Why? Because hopefully by then all the damn bugs'll be fixed, and we won't lose half a day's worth of data. I feel really horrible about that, since it was my own dang fault for not rebacking up everything tonight when I started the failed upgrade.
Hopefully, though, I've managed to correct the password and registration problems that have been plaguing the poor TONFAites these past few months. Turns out I deleted a couple of includes at some point. I don't recall doing things. Though apparently I did.
So I guess I really do have something to "fushigi mystery!" about. ^_\;;

Okay, first? IF YOU ARE NOT AT LEAST 18, DON'T CLICK 'OK' ON THE WARNINGS BOX.Secondly. DON'T USE YOUR FAMILY EMAIL ADDRESS IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE STUPID AND CLICK 'OK' ANYWAYS.
It's out of my hands if you choose to ignore the warnings. I do not, however, appreciate emails that "this" will be taken to the police, because you are an underaged idiot using the family email to get updates to your 18+ favorites.
So. If you don't want your parents to find out? Turn off the damn updates feature.
Or, better yet.
DON'T READ 18+ FANFICTION IF YOU ARE NOT 18+.

[... insert nifty subject title here]
This is a supplement/response to Priest-sama's previous news item and to something else I've noticed as well. (If this is above my station to be posting this, the other mods can feel free to delete this, and I apologize for the trouble.)The comment form for the news update is to allow you to express your opinions regarding a decision that any of the mods make. For the most part, all of you have kept your comments polite in the news comments, so, personally, I don’t see any reason that there shouldn’t be one. =]
However, in the matter of flames and such, we all understand how rude they are. All of us also understand that it’s slightly unnerving when you have some random anon reviewer who likes to spout crap about you for no known reason. Personally, I don't mind anonymous reviews as long as they're civil and not malicious. (Even though my ego does get easily bruised when people kindly tell me something I've done is sub-standard.)
Even so--! Should you get flamed, whether it’s by an anonymous reviewer or a registered reviewer, I do think that you, as responsible, courteous users, shouldn’t sink down to their level and Internet-shout back things just as offensive. Call it self-defense if you’d like, but you don’t fight fire with fire. It’ll only get worse.
If someone tells you something like, “Your work is a piece of s***. I think you should go shoot yourself in the face, jump off a bridge, and die a horrible, painful slow death because you’re such a s***** writer,†by all means, you have every right to be angry because that’s just rude.
But it’s just as bad to say something as--or even more--immature/rude, like, “Shut the f*** up, you retard. Get lost and go to hell, and, while you’re at it, go f*** a cow. After that, I hope you get raped by tentacles because you’re a dickhead.â€
Number one: flamers only get spurred on by the adverse reactions to their negative comments--it's like an aphrodisiac to them. (Don’t ask me why because my head doesn’t work like theirs...) They *love* it when the reviewee vocalizes how upset they are by their rude comments.
Number two: it’s just not polite. Just because you get treated badly doesn’t mean you have any right to treat them badly in return, no matter how rude they might be.
Thirdly… it’s the Internet. The Internet is a weird virtual world, and when you put things into public view on the Net, you kind of have to expect the risk in doing that. Flamers and people like them are cowards: it’s so much easier to rip people apart when they know no one can really lay a hand on them.
And, probably more important than the rest: When it boils down to the nitty-gritty, flamers and people like them are really not going to affect your success as a person in real life--unless you take it too much to heart and let it interfere with your livelihood.
There is a limit to how far rudeness can go (thankfully, that limit doesn’t take much to break). Unfortunately, there is no limit to some peoples’ determination to upset others. While anonymous reviews can be turned off and contact forms can be made, it won’t necessarily stop other people from finding other ways to harass others. If you are continually bullied by someone and they have no intention of stopping, you know what to do. =D (If you're not so sure, see the last sentence of the news update before this one.)
(Sorry about this being so long. ^^")
(Priestly edit: It's part of TONFA's rules/Terms of Service that any and all participants in a flame war are banned. So it's just smart to not be rude in response to someone else being rude to you. Also, because I don't want this disappearing off the top so soon-- new affie.)

New Affliate & The MUCK
That's right! After two years, TONFA has it's first new affliate! It's also lost the two that have been sitting on the menu bar, but who's owners had let their domains expire... But anyways! Got Naruto is TONFA's new affie. Careful, the site's in Italian, but don't let that stop you from looking at it!
As for the second half of the title... the MUCK is active, though apparently it's used most for sex and relationships. Drat, I was hoping for plot. But lack of plot won't stop me! If you're unsure about using a MUCK, but want to get in on the panfandom weirdness (or you just want to find out what the heck Yukute is), check out the livejournal community: http://community.livejournal.com/yukutemu/.
If you don't want to, you never have to touch the MUCK. You can play out scenes entirely on the livejournal :)

The TONFA How-To Manual and Terms of Service Agreement
Well I finally remembered to write up the Terms of Service agreement. It's pretty basic. In fact, aside from giving the reasons you can get banned, it links you directly to the new TONFA How-To Manual. In eighteen point font, so you don't miss it.Some of you have been aware that I've been working on the Help Page. It's not finished yet, but the most important parts of it are. This includes a new Glossary of Terms, definitions of what a Story Fragment, Idea, and Drabble are, Rules of Etiquette, and what the difference between Series and Story is.
Once everything is up, I actually intend to split it up into individual pages and make it a 'proper' Manual for the site. There will be information in it about the Forums, the Gallery, Dreams of Kyuubi and Yukute no Shinobi (The MUCK-- check out the DoK boards for information)

Would you look at that...
http://www.cafepress.com/tonfastoreSo what is that? Why, it's a store! With TONFA Merchandise! Well, shirts, at least. Those of you who've visited the forum may have seen my 'If I were a ninja...' thread. Well, this is why I wanted those ideas-- TONFA costs money, and t-shirts generate money. Kinda. Sorta. Maybe?
I chose to do this because a few people have commented to me that they would like to have something to express to the world that they are TONFA-goers. The TONFA store will help with that.
Of course, you're always welcome to head on over to the forum, and think up a rule of your own. Who knows? You might just get it on a t-shirt.
(Don't forget, just because you yourself can't afford them, doesn't mean your parents can't-- Christmas is just around the corner!)

The labor of Priest and I have given you a brand-new way of reading fic: RSS feed. (go here for a defintion of RSS feed). But how do you get it to work?
Well, if you take the following url: http://www.narutofic.org/rss.php you can do two things:
- If you run AOL Explorer, or have a Google account, you can add it as a feed there
- You can download the FeedReader for free.
As always, any questions/concerns/what have you can be directed my way.

Gaara Skin
It's taken me forever, I but do believe I finally managed to figure out what I was doing wrong with the coding of the Gaara skin. So, without further ado, the winner of the TONFA Banner Contest, Mimi Hatake/Hyuuga's banner has offically become the Gaara Skin. Go, check it out.
And if there is something wrong, please, please, please tell me, so I can fix it.
Edit: SNRegret, the second place skin, should also be finished. Hopefully. I'm pretty sure I saved everything. Again, if something's wrong, tell me so I can fix it!

When Submitting a story...
When submitting a story, please for the love of god put the entire story in one story. Chapters do not stand on their own.I spent two and a half hours today combining 73 chapters into one story. Seventy-three chapters. I don't want to do that ever again. If I do find a story that's been illogically split up like Shenrai Iarnehs's drabble series of doom, I will resort to deleting the chapters, not moving them, as it's just too much damn effort.
In other news, the TONFA gallery is located at http://gallery.narutofic.org/index.php. It's not complete by any means. But it will be.

TONFA MU*
Because Dai and the guys at DoK are really insistant...We're starting a MU*. Still haven't decided if it will be a MUCK or a MUD; I'm leaning towards MUD (though I have more experience with MUCKing) since Naruto is action based, and I'm sure some people want to be able to pariticpate in combat.
Anyways, I want to know if anyone here will want to play. (Yes, it's another poll) This is NEED TO KNOW, so I know which plan to purchase. If no one here wants to play, I'll set it up with the minimum, since I know the DoK guys want it.
Feel free to discuss this here or on the Dreams of Kyuubi MUCK Archive forum. Warning, somethings in the MUCK Archive are not meant for children's eyes. Children includes anyone below the age of 18.

How To Sort Your Work
With the new method of categorizing the fanfiction we have here at TONFA, Priest and I have decided to break it down for you, so that I won't have to move your stories around for you.Slash Fiction---Any story that involves slash/homosexual pairings/Yaoi/Yuri/whatever you call it MUST go here. Do not put it anywhere else. This is to make sure that those who do not like slash pairings will never read it. The Slash Fiction category has all of the same subcategories as the Romance and General Fic categories...ie Naruto-centric, OC-Centric, Smut, etc.
Romance---This is where the Het-pairing fics go. Please, no slash. It's still being sorted through, so if you have a story in here, it may or may not get moved.
The Unsorted Fics, Drama/Angst and General Fics shall also be sorted through soon. Again, if your fic gets moved, it's probably because it doesn't belong in that subcategory anymore.
Also, none of the top level categories, except for General Fiction, will be unlocked. Meaning, that you have to put it in a subcategory, not in the top level (ie putting a InoShika story under Shikamaru and Ino, not Romance).
Thanks!
(Priest is sneaking in here with an edit: Banner Contest Submission has been unlocked, and renamed "Forum Banner Submission". Banners posted there will be under consideration for use in forum skins. Second Priestly Edit: Unsorted Epics are now fully sorted. There's also a new Alternate Universe category-- both in general and in slash fic.)
[Waisetsu Ningyou also sneaking in with an edit: After spraining my ankle and, thus, being sent home by the band director, I didn't have to go to a band competition today and had about 5-6 hours of open time to kill. So... I sorted through the remaining Slash Fiction in the Romance section and I placed them in their respective categories. Some of the stories, I didn't change anything--such as stories with Het and Slash pairings--because the categorization was ambiguous. In the meantime, please check your stories if I might have mis-categorized them by accident. And as a reminder in the future, like Lae mentioned, if you have yaoi/yuri in your story, please place it under "Slash Fiction."]

Reviews and Round Robins
Hinotama, I don't care they're "playing nice" now. Rules are rules. The review function IS NOT a forum/chatroom/shoutbox. We have a forum. It can be found at http://forums.narutofic.org/. There is an "author reply" function that authors can use to repond to their reviewers. Use that instead of responding with another review if you want to respond directly to something said.
That out of the way, I dislike flames and flame wars. I believe I've stated this before. If I hadn't I apologise, but I do. On the forums, flame wars are grounds for banning.
I'm giving all flamers on the main site this one warning. From here on out, I see any flames or flamers, and you're out. I don't care about the circumstances. You're out if you flame.
This is a community, and I don't want hatred in this community. We're all friends here, whether you like what someone else has done or not. And being friends does not mean attacking people through reviews OR the body of a story.
Which brings me to the Round Robin part of this little rant. I allow round-robins on the site so that people can have fun and co-write with a dozen other authors. It's not there to be used as a way to attack someone in their own story. As it is, certain stories have been moderated. Heavily. We're deleting reviews AND chapters that don't comply with this. With our attention brought to this story and it's problems, we feel that action needs to be taken.
If we see this sort of thing again, there will be no massive public message, only an email stating why we felt we needed to delete reviews and/or chapters, to both the author hosting the story, and to those instigating any problems.
I don't like having to do this. I prefer that you all have fun and play nice. But I know that doesn't always happen; that's why we have moderators, and administrators. If you're being harrassed, tell us. We will help.

Dreams of Kyuubi
Well, Daisukekun and I had a little talk last night, and it resulted in Dai getting some space on the TONFA server. So, what did he do with it?Created a roleplay site! Dreams of Kyuubi is, of course, a Naruto forum-style RPG. There's no set plot (yet), but all authors-- and readers!-- are welcome to stop by, poke around, and join up if they so want.
Right now, we're just settling into the board, so if you want to jump in an have fun right from the beginning, characters are first come first serve!
