"I'm not scared of you Gaara. Don't think for a second that I am."
Hitomi stood, eyes staring into Garra's, showing no sign of fear. Sand swirled
around her, threating the death that should soon come. But she wasn't afraid. She
stared at Gaara, her face showing possibly anger, or was it something else?
Gaara watched her, not understanding. "You are afraid." he said.
She watched him closely. "You can go ahead and kill me. What are you waiting?
for?" she demanded.
"Why are you in such a hurry to die? You aren't even trying to defend yourself."
"Well then, what are you worried about?"
Garra didn't answer. All that could be heard was the whoosh of the sand, circling
them. He didn't understand. There was something different about her. Anyone could see that.
She stood with no fear of death, the one thing that many shinobi feared. But those
who didn't, kept a quiet profile. They held the weight of their messed up past heavily
on their shoulders and walked apart from the crowd. This girl was different. She was
outgoing and made friends with even the the most withdrawn. Everyone knew her and respected
her.
At first glance, she seemed carefree. Always happy. But Gaara was looking closer
than that. He could see that she had suffered. Marks of sadness were hidden in her face,
but so obviously there when finally seen. How could this girl have ever suffered? She was
standing there with a look on her face that showed she was brave. In the face of death,
in the face of Gaara, she stood her ground. But from what he had seen of her, this made
no sense. No sense at all.
"Why are you hesitating?"
Gaara let the sand return to his gourd, not taking his eyes off her.
"You don't run from me like everyone else. Why?"
Hitomi gave a small smile. -So this is the monster of the sand village huh?-
She had heard about Gaara and had taken an interest in him. She'd gone looking for him
earlier today, maybe that had been the wrong thing to do, but Hitomi did it anyway.
Finally, she had found him in a field.
--------------------FLASHBACK---------------------
"Hello Gaara." she said, looking up at him.
"Go away." He scowled.
"No." He looked at her incredously.
"I'm not in any mood to talk to anyone. I'll give you one more chance. Leave,
before I get angry."
"I won't." She said evenly. Gaara eyes narrowed with anger.
"Then you will die." He summoned his sand, which swirled around them, smelling of
death. His eyes contained more anger than Hitomi had recognized. But she wasn't leaving
yet. Not yet.
----------------------M'KAY, END OF FLASHBACK-------------------------
"I told you, I'm not scared of you."
"You're very different from everyone else in your village. You may be brave, but you are stuck up.
It will lead to your destruction later." Hitomi raised an eyebrow.
"So you're saying that being a smart ass will kill me?"
"You are a pathetic excuse for a shinobi. Life is easy for you isn't it? You
live with your parents and get everything handed to you, don't you? At's all a game,
isn't it? I bet you're a spoiled brat. You're an only child and get all the attention,
everything you could ever want is given to you."
Hitomi stood there, expression a serious as ever. "You couldn't be more off."
She said darkly.
Gaara smirked. "Yeah right. I got it exactly, didn't I?"
"I told you. You couldn't be more off."
"If I'm completely wrong, than what is your story?"
Hitomi scowled. "You don't care."
Gaara stared at her. "Your past might be bad, but it can't be as bad as mine."
"If you really want to know, I'll tell you."
Gaara sat down of a large rock. "Go ahead."
