Naruto’s demise won’t be Sasuke, it will be Sai. Sasuke’s thoughts are linear and his eyes focus only on Itachi. Only if Naruto comes between him and his goal will Sasuke strike. Sai, however, doesn’t have to strike at all. He can do damage simply by existing.
Naruto craves attention. If he can find a reason to like someone, he attaches to that person instantly. Despite the fact Sai said he smiles to achieve his goals, Naruto still caved. Sai confided in Naruto, but if it was the truth no one knows. By saying such things, by sharing such things, he gained Naruto’s trust. This is why Naruto entrusted The Mission to Sai. Even after finding out Sai’s true mission, Naruto wouldn’t believe it. He wouldn’t even charge forward and demand answers from Sai after catching up to him.
Naruto’s demise won’t be Sasuke, it will be Sai. Sasuke is too focused to pull Naruto away. Sai already has Naruto’s trust, and if he pulls, Naruto might follow wherever that might lead.
