You're doing wonderfully well here. The plot is, no doubt, getting thicker and thicker, It didn't matter that this chapter was short, because...well...the way I see it is that the length of the fic can *somewhat* be the manifestation of the main character's mood and feelings. I do remember saying that your fic lacked the mood. Well, I would say that you've done beautifully here. I've always thought of the author as the secret confidante of the characters in a story, and therefore it is up to the author to describe the moods of the characters in every best possible ways. I would assume that Naruto is feeling rather short-tempered and frustrated at how things turned out to be for him, perhaps even angry. Therefore, making this chapter short seemed to convey his unwillingness to elaborate more on the situation.
Apart from that, I like how you had Naruto respond to his loss of occupation. This Naruto is different from the Naruto we all know in the anime and manga, what's with his history and all, It gives you an advantage in the sense that you can mould and direct him whichever way you like. This...is a good direction you're heading, in my opinion.
You know something...reading this and Machination from before...it made me feel as if I had actually grown up with your version of Naruto. Really and seriously.
Oh yeah, one more thing...you know how you mentioned that Naruto would uncover some mysterious guy from Sasuke's equally mysterious past? Just my...um...piece of mind - try to avoid from casting Itachi for that guy, ne? It's becoming a little too cliche. Considering the fact that you now have the power to alter the characters in this AU, might as well you take the chance to use it to the fullest.
