Review Responses
So, because I got irritated in trying to figure out why the bloody response button wouldn't appear...I've spent the last two and a half hours making up my own new form ^_
So some of you (if you were trying to respond in the last two hours) may have noticed that the button was back... but wouldn't work. Some of you may have even responded, only to find funny symbols or words instead of "Author's Response".
No review will state "Author's Response" anymore. It'll give the username of the responder... because the bloody stupid form hates me and wouldn't let me limit it to the author and the author alone. What does that mean? That means anyone who's logged in can use the respond button. I'm going to try and see if I can fix that, but I don't want to tie up the site any longer, so I'm going to play with it on my build-site.
Edit: Okay! So I've found a way to lock responses to the author, though everyone will still see the "Respond" button if they're logged in. The question now is:
Do you want to be able to respond to other peoples' reviews on their review (and considering that I've seen some people carry on conversations through posting reviews...), or do you want to have it locked to the author alone? Like Suishouryuu said, it'll come across like a forum thread.
I'm willing to let this go on a trial run and see what everyone thinks in a week or so. That is, if you all want it. Otherwise I can set it to author-lock right now. Up to you guys-- you're the ones who'll be using it.

Oh! So THAT'S what's been going on! xD I didn't get why the thing wouldn't write 'Author's Response' and why I could respond to other people's comments on other author's stories. Now I do. Actually, it's not that bad, though it'd turn the reviewing system into a forum-like thread. Which isn't necessarily bad, but it can be confusing. And troublesome. x ) Okay maybe the previous system's better xD

I'm willing to have it like a forum thread thing. You know, like it is now. It has an advantage - it cleans up the reviews page when, for instance, a reviewer wants to respond to an author's own response (and when you have review conversations. >_>). But, on the other hand, it'll promote having said review conversations. But since they still happen regardless of how the review system is set up, maybe leaving it like this is a good idea. My opinion is that, if people start complaining that their review page is clogged with reviews, it's back to the previous system. Otherwise, it should be okay. ^^,

Heh. Now the question is... can I get this to work on the news page, too? XD

Uh, I don't understand fully. Being able to respond to an authors responce to your review sounds good though.
ChiyoChan @ 17/06/07 - 05:29 pm
I would be up for this if the response on a review was limited only to the Author and the Reviewer. If I'm reading this correctly, as it stands now anyone can respond to any comment, whether it be by the author, reviewer or whoever decided to say something last.
I personally would like it limited just to Authors responding to their reviews possibly with the option of the reviewer replying once again. Any more people contributing to an already established review would be awkward and troublesome, but thats only my opinion.
If multiple people all want to add in their two cents on a single review with added responses, let them simply write their own review and have the Author respond to them on an individual basis.
So essentially, I'm up for 'multiple response' mode only if it is limited to the author and individual reviewer. If other people want to comment on something, let them leave their own review with a quick snippet regarding someone else's comment if they absolutely must.
Hope that didn't sound too harsh. I just never want to see the possibility of two (or more) reviewers arguing over a certain interpretation of a story or some such thing which swallows up the screen and takes away from all the helpful/insightful reviews that were shoved to the bottom of the page.

hnnn... I think people should be able to respont to others comments personally... It seems like a really good idea

Ah, I agree with phoenixclaw.

I, also, agree with phoenixclaw

Which script is easier for you to keep the database? (because, after all the mess to be cleaned ends with you, priest...)
Also, which one is easier for you to program?

see everyone likes to beable to responed so keep it like that! :3
lurtz101 @ 18/06/07 - 03:49 pm
maybe you should make a forum so every one can talk and stuff
lurtz101 @ 18/06/07 - 03:51 pm
I'm sorry to comment again, but I thought I should say this. Not that it is utterly necessary, but it would make things much easier. If we had some sort of guestbook / message box thing, it would facilitate things and not clog the review page. Because, really, if any member of TONFA wants to chat, it must be either through an IM or the forums. Now, most of the conversations we have on review pages aren't worth having on an IM because they're not long enough. It's usually something like this: user comments story, then says "oh and by the way..." and the author comments that, thus initiating a short conversation. This isn't worth having on an IM because it's not exactly something we'd bother saying that much... we just say it because we _can_, on the review page, because it just so happened to pop up when we were reviewing. And, personally, I don't see myself posting a forum topic just to chat with someone. So, yeah, it'd be handy. But, of course, you're the admin here, I'm just suggesting something. ^_^'' But it'd still be handy =p

I honestly liked the old reviewing system, the author can't tell when they get reviiews now cause they get stacked up and it becomes a task to check them all
Oni_Chan @ 18/06/07 - 06:20 pm
I also agree with what PhonenixClaw said.
XxanimefanxX @ 20/06/07 - 04:57 am
Mm, yes I agree with PhoenixClaw as well, though if it's difficult to make it like that, the old system was nice... made Tonfa special to me, that it was a review, then the authors personal reaction to that review.
niveaus @ 20/06/07 - 10:17 am
personally i prefer the old way... but this explains why i couldnt respond to any reviews... but i can see why you would want to change it... people shouldnt clog up the review part with a conversation... however the old way is better if you ask me
LittleCrane @ 20/06/07 - 11:07 pm
For the record, we do have a forum, which can be used to discuss and have conversations. So I'm not sure if we have need for a messagebox. Of course, if the reviewer has an account on TONFA, you could always PM them.
@ 04/07/07 - 08:38 pm
Ah that explains why I couldn't respond! As there's already a forum I think it might be a good idea to have the Authors Response limited to the Author. (I hope that made sense). But at least it's working again! =]
suzieuchiha @ 05/08/07 - 02:00 pm
i don't get it what is so bad that anyone can responed it'll be just like you-tube and you tube is easy to operate!
