TSF: So, I don't own anything in the story except the plot!
Temari: No infriggment intended!
TSF: No person getting paid here!

Sakura sighed while slightly pushing herself on the swings in the Konoha park. The pink-haired kunoichi was sad, she wouldn’t deny it. Just a week ago, she was dating Sasuke, her dream boy. That week, he was acting very odd, like his mind was some place else. Later that week, one of the worst things possible had happened to her.

FLASHBACK

Sasuke and Sakura were walking in the park, Sasuke acting weird and into-space like he had the whole week. Sakura, feeling concerned, reached for his hand, but he turned and stuffed both hands into his pockets. The kunoichi turned to the side, in shock. What happened to her perfect Sasuke?

Suddenly, the Uchiha stopped walking. Sakura faced him and asked, “What is it, Sasuke-kun?” He emotionlessly replied, “I don’t think we should see each other anymore, Sakura. It’s just not working out.” That was all he said, nothing more. After he dumped Sakura, he jumped into the air without another word.

Normally, Sakura would’ve chased after him, but she was rooted to the ground with shock. How could this have happened? How could they have been happily dating one day, and broken up the next, and with no logical explanation. Tears pushed against her closed eyelids, but she would not let the leak through. She would not show any weakness in the presence of Sasuke again, who, she knew, was probably watching her, waiting for her to crack. Instead, she ran. She ran like never before. She ran home and flung herself onto her bed. The kunoichi sobbed and tears smeared her pillow. Sakura would not come out, not for dinner, not for friends or family, not for anything. The only time she did come out was to go to the bathroom, but, as the bathroom was right next to her room, she could dash in and out without anyone noticing.

And now, a full four days later, Naruto had pounded on her window and door enough to convince her to come out, but she still declined any form of contact. That day, while wandering the streets of Konoha with her head hung low, she heard a sound, a very annoying laugh, to be exact. Sakura gloomily looked up and what she saw broke her already broken heart into microscopic pieces of what it had been. There, right in front of her face, was Sasuke with Ino, yes, INO, clinging onto his arm. The sick part was that he wasn’t rejecting her as usual. They were walking so that she could not see their faces, but it didn’t matter, because Sakura was now running the other way, tears streaming down her face, to anywhere but there.

END OF FLASHBACK

And there the Haruno was now, swinging all alone in the Konoha park. She stayed like this for awhile, until Hinata came up, concerned with her friend’s state of mind.

“S-Sakura-chan,” She stuttered. The pink-haired kunoichi paid the Hyuuga no attention and continued looking at her feet.

“S-Sakura-chan, you m-must know about I-Ino-chan and Sasuke g-getting together, r-right?”

Sakura, being the smart kunoichi she was, couldn’t help but notice that Hinata used no honorific on Sasuke’s name, Hinata, the polite one. The Haruno couldn’t help but smile slightly on the inside. Hinata was a good girl, dropping her politeness at anyone who hurt her friends.

“W-well, Kiba-kun and I are c-coming with Ino-chan and S-Sasuke to Naruto-kun’s birthday party tomorrow. I w-was wondering if y-you wanted to c-come with us.”

For the first time in five days, Sakura looked up and smiled. “Thank you for the invitation, Hinata, but I don’t think I can be around Sasuke-ku…” She stopped herself. She must not call him Sasuke-kun anymore. Not after he broke her heart. “I don’t think I can be around Sasuke anymore,” Sakura finished with a smile.

“Oh,” Hinata looked slightly sad, but her visage soon brightened, “well, it’ll be at the dance club at 7:00 incase you still want to come. Goodbye, Sakura-chan!” The Hyuuga heiress left, leaving the pink-haired kunoichi alone on her swing.

That night, the Haruno lied down on her bed, staring up at the ceiling. Should she go? It was only 6:50, still enough time to get to Naruto’s house, and she did have a few free coupons for Ichiraku’s leftover. However, going would mean having to see Sasuke and Ino-pig. If she was lucky, she might be able to avoid them. Yes, she would go to Naruto’s party.

After making herself presentable, Sakura took the coupons, placed them in a gift bag, and jumped out of her window.

Following a few hops, she came to the party, and there were colorful lights shining through the windows, music blaring. Sakura hesitantly opened the door and bright lights stung her eyes. Then Naruto appeared, full of smiles and energy as usual, even though he had probably been dancing the whole night.

“Sakura-chan, you came!” he yelled and gave her a small hug.

“Yeah, happy birthday, Naruto,” she smiled, and set her present with the others.

Suddenly, Lee came out of nowhere and greeted, “Hello, Sakura-chan! I was worried that you would not come! Do you wish to dance?”

“Oh, hey Lee,” the Haruno smiled slightly at her friend’s happy-go-lucky attitude, “uh, I don’t think I feel like dancing tonight, but maybe another time.”

The taijutsu user’s face fell for a moment, but then he grinned again, said goodbye, and continued to bother Neji and Tenten.

Sakura searched the room for Sasuke. He was sitting at a table facing the stage with his back to her. Ino was, of course, at his side, leaning her head on the Uchiha’s head.

Naruto climbed onto the stage and took the microphone from its stand. He hollered, “Alright everyone, its karaoke time! Are there any volunteers?”

Sakura tried to make herself as small as possible, hoping he wouldn’t see. The last thing she wanted was too be noticed right now.

As if by cue, Naruto pointed to the pink-haired kunoichi and yelled, “Come on, Sakura-chan, why don’t you sing? For my birthday?” He added, with puppy-dog eyes.

Sakura started waving her hands and shaking her head, saying no. Sasuke had turned around and was staring at her with wide eyes, since he didn’t notice her come in. Tenten and Lee started pushing her from behind onto the stage.

“Come on guys, I really can’t!” she protested. Nonetheless, they wouldn’t stop until she was all the way up on the stage.

The Kyuubi boy thrust the mike into her hands and whispered a good luck before jumping off the stage.

The DJ called from the side, “What song do you want to sing?”

“Uh, I’ll sing… ‘When it was Me’ by Paula DeAnda.” She whispered the song title and turned to face the karaoke screen. Sure as ever, Sasuke was gaping at her, Ino jealously trying to distract him. The song started playing and she started singing.

Ooh, no

Yeah, yeah

She's got green eyes and she's 5'5"

Long brown hair all down her back

Cadilliac truck

So the hell what

What's so special about that

She used to model, she's done some acting

So she weighs buck of 5

So I guess she's alright if perfection is what you like

Ooh, ooh, and I'm not jealous, no I'm not

Ooh, ooh, I just want everything she's got

Ooh, ooh, you look at her so amazed

I remember way back when you used to look at me that way

Tell me what makes her so much better than me (so much better than me)

What makes her just everything that I can never be

What makes her your every dream and fantasy

Because I can't remember when it was me

And now you don't feel the same

I remember you would shiver everytime I said your name

You said nothing felt as good as when you gaze into my eyes

Now you don't care I'm alive

How did we let the fire die

Ooh, ooh, and I'm not jealous, no I'm not

Ooh, ooh, I just want everything she's got

Ooh, ooh, you look at her so amazed

I remember way back when you used to look at me that way

What makes her so much better than me (so much better than me)

What makes her just everything that I can never be

What makes her your every dream and fantasy

Because I can't remember when it was me

That made you smile

That made you laugh

Even if it makes you happier than you have ever

been, oh me

That was your world (me)

Your kind of girl

Nothing about me has changed

That's why I'm here wondering

What makes her so much better than me (what

makes her so much better than me)

What makes her just everything that I can never be

What makes her your every dream and fantasy

Because I can't remember when it was me

What makes her so much better than me (what

makes her so much better than me)

What makes her just everything that I can never be

What makes her your every dream and fantasy

Because I can't remember when it was me

When it was me

When it was me

When it was me

Sakura ended the song with a small exhale. Lee started clapping, followed by Naruto, Hinata, Tenten, and everyone else but Sasuke and Ino. Sasuke was still in total shock and Ino was pouting, arms crossed, and fume coming out of her ears.

After the party, Sakura said goodbye to everyone and walked home in the dark. All of a sudden, Sasuke appeared in front of her, leaning against a wall. Sakura halted, but continued walking, ignoring her teammate. When she was a few feet away from him, she felt a strong hand grab hold of her arm. Sakura turned and tried to snatch her arm away, but Sasuke held on tight, his eyes looking deeply into hers.

“Sasuke, let go of me!” she yelled.

“Sakura, listen to me,” he coolly replied, “I can explain everything.”

“What’s there to explain?!” She shouted, tears streaming from her angry eyes, “You dumped me and got together with Ino!”

“Sakura, no, just listen.”

She tugged and tugged, but she couldn’t break free. The Haruno gave up and allowed Sasuke to talk. “Well, I’m listening, Sasuke.”

A small tick went off in the Uchiha’s head. She hadn’t used the honorific like she normally would.

“Okay, well, I guess I should start here…” He began.

FLASHBACK

Sasuke was on his way to pick up Sakura on their date, but Ino stopped him in the middle of the street.

“Come on, Sasuke-kun,” she said sweetly, “why don’t you dump that billboard brow and date me?”

“Hn,” he replied and continued walking.

She grabbed onto his arm and he turned with venom in his eyes.

“Well, Sasuke-kun, I just thought you would want to see these pictures.” She taunted one in his face. It was a picture of his family, before they were killed. They all seemed so happy, so together.

“Where did you get those?” the Uchiha said, poison dripping from every word.

“Oh, details, details,” Ino waved, “I’ll let you have these if you date me.”

“Pig, just give me those pictures,” Sasuke pulled his arm away and snatched the photos. They disappeared in a puff of smoke and were replaced by a rose.

“Henge, Sasuke-kun,” the blond teased, “oh, did you get that flower for me?” She grabbed the rose and sniffed it. “Come on, Sasuke-kun, just date me for awhile, and you’ll get your pictures!”

Afterward, he had dumped Sakura, for the family pictures. He had dated Ino, for the family pictures.

END OF FLASHBACK

Sasuke finished his story and looked at Sakura.

“Sakura, do you understand now?”

The Haruno stared off into space, the story getting clarified in her mind. Finally, she looked up and said, “Yes, Sasuke-kun, I do.” And she kissed him, much to his enjoyment.

After their kiss, he walked her home, taking as long as possible.

“So, Sasuke-kun,” she asked, “did you ever get the pictures?”

He smirked and pulled them out of his pocket. “Ino demanded I pick her up at her house, so I found them easily. They were hidden in her diary.”

Sakura giggled. “Oh, Ino,” she smiled while hugging his arm which was wrapped around her shoulders, “when will you ever learn?”
