They're not here.
The Nibi has disappeared.
And I know they have already come and gone.
"Damn it..."
Suigetsu closes his eyes, leaning against the wall with a sigh.
"So. They're gone"
Karin rolls her eyes.
"No shit. Think we didn't notice?"
He ignores her.
"So where to now, Sasuke?"
"I need to think about it. I really don't know right now..."
"How about we investigate? Maybe someone saw them leave"
"Mm. That would work. It would give us the general direction they're heading in at least"
Suigetsu looks up.
"Alright. Split up?"
"Yes. We'll meet back here in a half hour. Understood?"
"Hai"
They say it in unison, and in a moment, they are gone.
I sigh.
Damn it, damn it, damn it.
Why is it that he is always one step ahead of me?
Always just a little better?
I growl, flinging a vase against the wall.
It shatters, dried flowers scattering quietly amidst the dirty water.
My heartbeat rings in my ears.
"You lack..."
My fists clench.
I kick the broken shards of glass across the floor.
"hatred..."
"It's your fault!"
I pick up a piece of the broken vase, flinging it hard into the wall again.
I see my reflection in the shards, watching as my face shatters into the air.
I suddenly don't feel like leaving.
I don't feel like investigating.
All I want to do...
I look down at the tiny fragments of glass glittering on the floor.
My eyes stare solemnly back at me.
All I want to do...
"Sasuke! I found someone who saw where they went!"
Is see your face.

The fire crackles quietly, flames reaching like fingers into the darkness.
Yugito watches it intently, darks eyes far away.
A soft smile adorns her lips, fingers running absently over her long blonde braid.
I hope her thoughts are beautiful.
I sit farther away from the light, lost in the feel of those slender hands carressing my arms.
We sit in darkness.
He's leaned easily against the trunk of an old oak, cloak wrapped closely around the two of us.
"Naruto-kun... Your eyes are sad..."
I turn in his arms, kneeled casually between his legs.
He watched me calmly.
I tilt my head to the side, resting my cheek against his knee.
"I'm not sad"
He smiles softly, running a finger gently down my neck.
I tremble lightly, eyelids falling quietly closed.
"You're lying..."
He presses a gentle kiss to my cheekbone and I link my arms loosely around his leg, sighing contentedly.
"Don't be silly"
I feel his fingers against my arm, tracing soothing circles across my skin.
"You're sad"
He says it simply, softly.
I lift my head, placing my hands on the tree behind him so that his head is between my arms.
I lean forward, pressing my chest lightly against his.
"I'm not sad"
My lips brush affectionately against the side of his face and he laughs softly, holding me gently.
"You've always been sad, Naruto-kun. But I'll change that..."
He kisses my cheek lightly.
"I swear it"
My heart aches.
I avoid his loving gaze, instead resting my face in the nape of his neck.
Because every time I look into those eyes...
I can't help but see you.
It hurts so much.
Because it makes me wish so badly that he was you.
And the guilt kills me.
