"Excuse me for asking, but why are we going after the Nibi?"

Itachi nods.
I watch him out of the corner of my eye,
He walks steadily, evenly, and the soft glint of those raven tresses makes me want to touch them.
I bite my bottom lip, turning my head to see him more clearly.
He tilts his head towards me, slender brow raised.
"Naruto-kun?"
"U- It's nothing"
I say it quickly, looking away.
There is a pause.
And for a moment there is only the sound of our footsteps.
Finally, he leans to the side, touching a delicate kiss to my cheekbone.
I blink, breath catching softly in my throat.
He straightens calmly, continuing on as if nothing had happened.
Kisame ignores it all, eyes kept studiously trained to the path ahead.
No one says anything.
The silence is tranquil.
And I can't help but wonder.
Maybe this is the right path for me.
The right life.
The right guy.
I glance back at Itachi.
That carved face, porcelain skin, and those intoxicating eyes...
A gentleness beneath that beautiful mask of indifferance...
And yet...
My eyes follow our footprints in the dirt.
I can't help but think of you.
I can't help but see your face in his.
I can't help but wish...
That maybe...
It was your hand in mine.
