High above the roofs of his former home, sat Sasuke. He reached into his robe and pulled out a battered piece of paper. Faded with time, and too much handling. He stared at the picture, feeling the rush of emotions that went right through him whenever he looked at this. Yet his face remained calm, emotionless.
Happiness as he remembered what that baka, Naruto, did that day at the carnival.
Longing for the normal life that he so stupidly threw away for this life. Everyday his soul was healing, he could feel it. Surrounded by friends, he was healing, they were the cure for the events that he thought would leave him scarred forever.
Hate for the rage that bubbled to the surface, when his malicious brother threatened to destroy the person that was helping him heal faster than anyone else. For reasons that he couldn't stop himself reach for the power that Orochimaru offered, to just leave and hurt the 'important people' in his life.
Regret for trading in his hope of a normal life of just living in hate with friends to help than to live in regret with no one to stand by his side.
Sasuke looked at the picture still, not even trying to stop the tears that rolled freely down his pale cheeks. Enraged at the path he took for this... this life. He rumpled the picture up and threw it into the woods below. He stared at the country he betrayed for a moment, then got up and went after the picture. He found it, and smoothed out the picture gently, like he had a thousand times before. He stared at the faded picture, not bothered at all that he could hardly see anything. He had looked at the picture so many times that he didn't need the picture anymore.
But he kept it still, because the one person that helped heal him faster than any other person, had given it to him. His worst enemy and his closest friend, Uzumaki Naruto, his Dobe.
